Boost your fundraising with these top tips and tools
Do you know the number one reason people donate to charities? Because they were asked! It’s that simple. So it goes without saying that the more people you ask to sponsor you, the more you can raise!
So who you could ask? Here are some suggestions:
- Get things started by making a donation yourself. You will always feel better about asking someone to do something you’ve already done. If you can afford it, why not kick in $25 and get your fundraising off to a great start!
- Ask your local butcher, hairdresser, gym or any other local business you visit regularly to make a donation of $25. Remember you can issue a tax-deductible receipt for any donation over $2.
- Tell your family what you’re planning to do and ask them to kick in $25 each to support you, if they can.
- Talk your co-workers into sponsoring you $20 each.
- Negotiate a donation from your boss. Work out a good place to start money-wise and go for it!
- Find out if your workplace operates a scheme to match what you raise.
- Mention your plans to people from church, day care, school, etc and ask them to donate $10 each.
- And last but not least call on your lifelong best friends! Ask them to pay $20 each to see you run the Dash.
Just by approaching the people listed above and using your networks you could have already raised around $500!
Great ways to promote your efforts
- Send one email with a link to your web page. You may be surprised by the amount of support you receive in such a short space of time
- Send a short PowerPoint presentation to communicate your message
- Place a message on your company intranet, or your sporting or community newsletter
- Ask if you can send a note out in any communication or paperwork your company sends to employees
- Put posters up around your workplace asking for support
- Insert your fundraising goal on your auto signature (just ask first that it’s OK!)
- Send an invitation for your friends to sponsor you (or take part in the event) on Facebook
What your money can do
Find out how the money you raise helps us to continue to make progress and give hope to people affected by cancer.
We can’t continue our work without you
It’s hard to believe that one in every two men will have cancer in their lifetime. That’s why Cancer Council have decided to take this challenge head on. Every dollar you raise will help us to mobilise action.
Research
It’s all about making positive changes. Our work in breast and cervical cancer research shows us that if you support the right research at the right time you can make a great difference.
The fact is 1 in 3 women are diagnosed compared to 1 in 2 in men. Together we can change this statistic with your help.
Prevention
Last year an estimated 106,000 Australian men and women were diagnosed with cancer. One in three of these cancers were preventable, that’s a whopping 20,000 sufferers who shouldn’t be suffering. We can change this statistic now, with the funds to support change in behaviour. We know it works! In 10 years men have lowered their risk of dying from lung cancer by 16% we can make a great difference.
Support
Major Matt Carr was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 26.
‘I was 10 foot tall and bullet proof. Not only was I trained and well prepared for war, I was looking for a fight. However cancer was not the type of fight I'd been hoping for.‘
The funds you raise will help us support cancer survivors like Matt when they most need it.
When cancer sufferers and their carers have nowhere to turn the Cancer Council has and will always be there to support them from simple things such as transport, health advice to funding to help them get to their next hospital appointment. No cry for help is ever turned down. So support us to support them.
